LUNCH BREAK & BONE BROTH

Lunch break walk at work turned into bone broth “fasting”

This week I’ve been going for a walk in my lunch break at work around the adjacent open space and memorial park. The idea rose from my desire to get more out during the day and trying to fast or skip a meal. Lately, I’ve been binge eating a little so I wanted to give “fasting” or skipping a meal a go and see if it would help.

Normally, I’m very hungry at lunch time so I thought I would start out more soft having bone broth for lunch. Bone broth is a type of stock made from bones and connective tissue, which we one or more times a week. Our slow cooker is more or less going constantly with bone left overs from our meals. We mainly purchase cuts of meat with the bones removed or whole fish and this way, making your own bone broth is extremely cost effective, as you can make use of left over carcasses/ bones that would otherwise be thrown away.

Bone broth contains minerals that are essential to the body (calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus, and fish bones also contain iodine) and is a rich source of collagen.

Drinking homemade bone broth has many health benefits like:

* Helps heal and seal your gut, and promotes healthy digestion
* Supports your immune system and inhibits infection
* Reduces joint pain and inflammation
* Promotes strong healthy bones, teeth, hair and nails

Today was a beautiful 31 C degree early spring day with a lovely breeze. I went for my walk and WOW, I enjoy it so much! I saw these dead trees clinging to each other. In among the native trees I also spotted a lemon tree and found three lemons. Bonus! Before I walked back to the office, I lay down in the tall grass, listening to the wind and looking up into the sky.

When I get back to the office, I’ll drink my bone broth and continue my working. Also, I seem to be able to stay away from snacks and wait until dinner before eating again.

Yesterday, one of my colleagues joined me and I enjoy both having company and walking on my own. They are each different but lovely experiences!

I really love this and l’m sure that I’ll keep it up. Can’t go about my day without my lunch break walk!
