READY FOR A LITTLE OUTING

READY FOR A LITTLE OUTING

Bringing your own snacks is a great way to reduce packaging and avoid processed foods when going out. I find it very helpful to bring our own snacks to offer our four year old. We avoid buying packaged and processed snacks full of sugars. I’ve […]

This is my newest addition of reusable and plastic-free straws. I’ve used stainless steel straws for a while but the long one doesn’t fit a kids size glass. These stainless steel short straws from Eco-Straw are a perfect match for my son’s smoothie glass They’re […]

WINTER FOOD FOR THE BIRDS

WINTER FOOD FOR THE BIRDS

Homemade food for the birds in old cups to help them through the winter.

We mixed leftover animal cooking fat with a mix of seeds but I guess you can also use coconut oil as it’ll also stay solid.

First the fat has to be softened to mix in the seeds. Now fill old cups with the seed and fat mix. After you fill the cups, you need to place the cups in cold so the fat becomes solid before hanging them up.

REUNITED WITH THE COMMUNITY FEELING

REUNITED WITH THE COMMUNITY FEELING

Moving back home back to my home town after almost 20 years, one of the things that has caught my attention the most is the community feeling that exits here. Before moving in July, the word community had occupied my mind more and more and […]

DON’T THROW AWAY THE END CUTS

DON’T THROW AWAY THE END CUTS

img_4819

The end of a spring onion that most people throw away, you can plant and they’ll regrow from it.

You don’t even need a lot of roots intact on the end piece for it to grow.

You can also grow them inside in a pot with soil or even just in glass of water.

I only plant my spring onion end cuts in soil as I’m wondering how many nutrients the spring onion can absorb when growing in water only. The plants can only be as nutritious as what they can absorb and utilise is my philosophy.

Don’t pull up the spring onions when you want to use them. Instead, cut them off and leave a little to regrow again.

You can also do this with for example leeks and fennel.

These spring onions are regrowing from ends we cut off spring onions that we bought.

HOW TO REUSE SHELLS

HOW TO REUSE SHELLS

My family enjoys a meal with mussels or oysters at least once a month. Not only is it delicious but also amazing for your brain health as mussels and oysters are brain building with their high content of long chain omega 3 fat. Another great thing […]

I bought these moulds (BPA free) for baby food and I’ve since used them to freeze bone broth, pumpkin/ sweet potato puree or herbs in oil. Not long ago, I’ve cut a small opening in the lid with a safety knife and now it’s also […]
