DON’T THROW AWAY THE END CUTS
The end of a spring onion that most people throw away, you can plant and they’ll regrow from it.
You don’t even need a lot of roots intact on the end piece for it to grow.
You can also grow them inside in a pot with soil or even just in glass of water.
I only plant my spring onion end cuts in soil as I’m wondering how many nutrients the spring onion can absorb when growing in water only. The plants can only be as nutritious as what they can absorb and utilise is my philosophy.
Don’t pull up the spring onions when you want to use them. Instead, cut them off and leave a little to regrow again.
You can also do this with for example leeks and fennel.
These spring onions are regrowing from ends we cut off spring onions that we bought.
