YES! TO A MORNING WALK

YES! TO A MORNING WALK

I try to encourage our son to be outdoors a lot so I don’t say no when my son asks me to come with him outside on an early Saturday morning. We both get out and move. In addition, I get to move with extra […]

CAMPFIRE IN THE FOREST

CAMPFIRE IN THE FOREST

On a beautiful Sunday morning my son and I went to our local forest with a natur playground and picnic area with facilities to make a fire. What a beautiful morning, delicious lunch and an excited boy 🙂   If this post was valuable to […]

DIFFERENT WAYS TO STORE APPLES

DIFFERENT WAYS TO STORE APPLES

Apples for cooking apple sauce to be stored in the freezer.

Apples cored and cut into pieces to be stored in the freezer for smoothies.

The best not bruised apples to be stored whole in a cold but frost free environment.

Picking and collecting apples also involves natural movement using your arms reaching, carrying buckets, squatting and bending down.

Plus it’s a great way to spend time outdoors with your family and friends.

FEELING REWILDED

FEELING REWILDED

My first time winter bathing. What a view and how exhilarating! I’m the type who hates cold water. You can ask my lovely hubby and he’s going to be very surprised when I tell him that I went in the water three times. He’s in […]

I COULDN’T BELIEVE HOW MY SON’S ENERGY CHANGED!

I’ve realised that when I take my three year old son out in nature the energy changes from “I want I want” and he becomes self-occupied and goes into an exploring mode. I don’t have to facilitate “what to do now” or dealing with disappointment from not getting his way. I just have to keep him out of harms way without being overprotective.

Lately, I’ve felt it quite demanding and draining spending time with my son, which doesn’t sound nice coming from me as his mum. I enjoy that he can express himself much more than when he was a baby but he still doesn’t easily express why he’s upset, angry, frustrated or what he wants help with. You know these unpleasant outbursts and you’ve to ask “use your words”.

I think that I’ve discovered another reason why the outdoors are called mother nature. It’s like mother nature gives you a helping hand 🙂 Like me, I also think that mother nature makes him feel more connected and gives him the feeling that there’s more life and that it extends far beyond his physical being. His focus goes from ME to WE.

There’s nothing like;

throwing rocks in the water,
checking out how the water has become full of sediments,
getting your feet in the water,
playing with big sticks,
identifying poos and
drinking homemade water kefir

Lately, I’ve made an extra effort to get outdoors. This morning was beautiful here in Perth but we also go out when it rains.

How much better I feel when I’ve been outdoors. It’s the best therapy I know!
